Thirteen years ago, a boy's father was found dead in the bathroom of a house near Yokohama's Chinatown. Police determined he had drowned after drinking alcohol. After the incident, the boy's mother disappeared without a word.
The protagonist, Koyanagi Ryuichi (aka Ron), is now 22 years old and spends his days idly, neither attending college nor working. His childhood friend, Iwashimizu Kinta, a detective in the First Investigation Division, has cared for Ron since he was a child and continues to investigate the truth behind Ron's father's accident.
One day, Ron receives a call from a woman who knows his grandfather, the victim of a fraud involving an illegal part-time job. Ron, who had solved the double suicide attempt of a classmate in high school, is forced to investigate the case. However, when Ron gets too involved, he is kidnapped and imprisoned by the organization that runs the illegal part-time work…

Having learned these words from his late father, Ron reaches out to every neighbor he meets, regardless of whether they are good or bad. And because he has no education, steady job, money, or prestige, he is able to save the hearts of those around him with words that transcend status or common sense.
